SlateTec by Genuine Roof Systems

Slate standards are set by ASTM International, a non-profit, independent organization for standards development for building
materials. In 1957, the ASTM established a consensus material standard for slate used for roofing applications. This material standard is designated as the
ASTM C406 which is now the “Standard Specification for Roofing material Slate.” ASTM C406 addresses material characteristics, physical properties, and sampling procedures appropriate to the selection of slate for use as roofing shingles

There are three tests used as a basis to grading slate:
Water Absorption of Slate C121
Weather Resistance of Slate C217
Flexure Testing of Slate C120

Based on these three tests, the ASTM C406 specifies whether the slate falls into the following three grades of roofing slate (dependent on geographic location and environmental exposure):
Grade S1 Slate – has an expected service life of more than 75 years
Grade S2 Slate – has an expected service life of 40 to 75 years
Grade S3 Slate – has an expected service life of 20 to 40 years
SlateTec Lightweight Slate Roofs use only the highest quality S1 grade roofing slate. It weighs roughly 40% less than a traditionally installed slate roof yet it retains all the essential qualities that make slate the best possible option for any roof, without the hassle of the extra weight.
SlateTec Lightweight Slate Roof System: Each SlateTec Roof is Unique & One of a Kind. Even two separate SlateTec slate roofs that use the same single color
will show differences in color hues, textures, and shadow lines. This is not only because of differing roof design and geometry but also because slate is a 100% natural product that takes millions of years deep in the earth to be produced. The different colors of slate come from underground veins of varying density stone that are intertwined and meshed together. Once the stone is quarried and processed down to roofing slate size, the color is classified and sorted.

None the less each piece comes out distinctive upon itself, just like someone’s fingerprint. This is what gives each slate roof the iconic beauty and natural elegance that they’re known for worldwide. It’s also what makes each SlateTec
roof a one of a kind masterpiece that expresses the owner’s true sense of style and eye to detail. Create your own unique roof with possibilities like random widths, staggered drop-downs, and color blend combinations. SlateTec’s reduced weight has successfully made slate an option where it was not possible before not only without compromise but actually improving on the  traditional
installation method.
